Mindy Smith made a name for herself with One Moment More, her beautiful debut album from 2004. To mark its 10th anniversary, she headlined a hometown show at Nashville’s City Winery last fall — and promptly sold it out. Remarkably the music has held up very well after a full decade, and with so many personal memories attached to those songs, that night made me feel like it was 2004 all over again.
Before she signed her record deal, Smith was a regular at Nashville venues like 12th & Porter, so by the time the album came out, it was a relief that I could finally listen to the songs at home, too. (Remember, this was before YouTube, which just turned 10 this month.) Not surprisingly, “One Moment More” always brought a hush over the audience. Even though it’s probably her most personal song — a remembrance of her late mother — it was always obvious that every listener could relate to it.
By the way, Smith is considering more tour dates in 2015 to keep the anniversary party going. Given the name of the album, I think it’s only fitting. Here’s a solo, acoustic version she filmed for us just prior to the City Winery gig. Enjoy the CMT Edge live performance of Mindy Smith’s “One Moment More.”
