How many romantic Americana songs can you think of? Not many, right? Personally I’d place Jason Isbell’s “Traveling Alone” among my favorite love songs from the last few years. I can appreciate how he’s offering a place in his life, rather than making a pledge of undying affection. To me, it represents a partnership — and it seems to be working. Playing fiddle and singing harmony here is Amanda Shires, who is Isbell’s wife and an admired artist in her own right.
This subdued performance of “Traveling Alone” comes from Isbell’s new DVD release, Live at Austin City Limits. He’s currently on tour in the Midwest, with shows set for Michigan, Missouri and Iowa this month. And here’s a sweet Valentine’s note – he’s expecting to release a new album by the end of the year.
Light some candles and listen to Jason Isbell’s live performance of “Traveling Alone.”
