Bill Anderson Tips “Old Army Hat” to Veterans

If anybody knows how to weave a storyline, it’s Grand Ole Opry star Bill Anderson. As a salute to American war heroes, CMT is proud to premiere his brand new video for “Old Army Hat.”

The tender song follows 91-year-old Army veteran Ed Haley, who made a pilgrimage to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. Once he got there, his old army hat attracted the attention of fellow visitors — and as this story unfolds, one young fellow, in particular.

“That ‘greatest generation’ of soldiers is passing away quickly now,” Anderson says. “We need to keep their memory alive — not for nostalgia’s sake — but as a reminder of what America can achieve at its best. And, believe me, Ed Haley was one of the best. His love of country and sense of duty have never faltered.”

A deserving member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Anderson joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001. His innumerable compositions include “City Lights,” “Whiskey Lullaby” and “Give It Away.” Take a look at “Old Army Hat.”
