Old 97’s Try to Focus on “Let’s Get Drunk and Get It On”

If Old 97’s ever filmed a reality show, it would probably look something like their action-packed video for “Let’s Get Drunk and Get It On.” With the screen divided into quadrants, you get a general idea of how these four play, from roller-skating with coffee to eating English muffins in the shower. Oh, yeah, and slamming back whiskey shots from cute bartenders.

“A few people in my life said, ‘You can’t sing “Let’s get drunk and get it on,”’” says Rhett Miller, the band’s frontman. “I said, ‘What do you mean? I’ve been singing that sentiment for 20 years!’ I was just never so straightforward about it.”

The raucous Dallas band returns to the road on Wednesday (Aug. 6), playing the first of two nights at Brooklyn Bowl. They’re also confirmed for Americanafest NYC at Lincoln Center in New York City on Saturday afternoon.

Take a look at “Let’s Get Drunk and Get It On,” a highlight of their new album, Most Messed Up. Then stay tuned to see Miller’s surprising (and disturbing) beauty secrets at the end of the video. Take that, Project Runway.
