Alabama’s “Forty Hour Week” Salutes American Workers

“Hello, America! I’d like to thank you for your time!”

As we stock up on hotdogs, beer and fireworks for Independence Day, take a tip from Alabama’s “Forty Hour Week (For a Livin’)” and tell somebody thanks for doing what they do.

The band’s sincere — and delightfully dated — video highlights the hard-working Americans who keep the wheels of progress turning. Going on the job in auto plants, steel mills, construction sites and wheat fields, the guys pay homage to the everyday people who make their families proud.

Written by Dave Loggins, Don Schlitz and Lisa Silver, the song came out in 1985, but it seems like the average Joe could use a pat on the back now more than ever. It only takes a little extra effort.
