Bryan Sutton stands as one of the most gifted guitarists in bluegrass and country music circles. Now the North Carolina native is adding vocals to his impressive skill set. For “Been All Around This World,” he shares the traditional tale of a young woman who finally gets out of a dead-end town — by riding away on the railroad that her suitor helped build.
It’s a neat story, to be sure, but the real star of this show is the beautiful Martin O-17 model guitar. Sutton’s grandfather purchased the instrument, built in 1942, new in San Francisco while he was stationed in the Navy. Seven decades later, the instrument still serves as a bright and charming companion.
The nimble song comes from Sutton’s newest album, Into My Own, released in April by Sugar Hill Records. Enjoy the CMT Edge live performance of “Been All Around This World.”
