Amanda Shires Wishes for Wings in “Look Like a Bird”

Americana singer-songwriter Amanda Shires is flying high as her solo career begins to take shape, but in her new video for “Look Like a Bird,” the fiddling Texas sweetheart still longs for some far-seeing perspective.

Its fluttering artistic vision is supplied by director Matt Mahurin, who has worked with artists as diverse as Tracy Chapman, Cher and R.E.M.

Shires told The Wall Street Journal she’d “do anything for art,” including climbing trees and throwing duck decoys.

It’s an abstract video — partially animated — that fits well with Shires’ textured lyrics. And with her distinctive vocals and a slightly unsettled fiddle lead, she seems ready to transform into a bird and fly off at any moment.

From her fourth solo album, Down Fell the Doves, enjoy Amanda Shires’ ornithological video for “Look Like a Bird.”
