Brennen Leigh and Noel McKay Find “Breaking Up Is Easy”

We’ve all heard sob stories about relationships that end in misery. “Breaking Up Is Easy” isn’t one of those. Instead, Brennen Leigh and Noel McKay add some honky-tonk spirit to this lively tune about splitting up.

Although the characters in the song are probably doomed, you can’t miss that sly twinkle in singers’ eyes when the story unfolds. As Leigh says in the introduction, it’s almost like they’re throwing dishes at each other when they’re trading guitar solos.

The classic country duet comes from the real-life couple’s first album together, Before the World Was Made. After a show on Thursday (Feb. 27) at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck in Houston, the duo will be preparing a few sets in their adopted hometown of Austin just in time for SXSW.
