One of the most prominent DJs in the EDM arena, Avicii has enlisted bluegrass singer Dan Tyminski for his latest smash, “Hey Brother.” Taking a bittersweet, patriotic approach, the dramatic storyline follows two young boys through wartime.
Tyminski, of course, has enjoyed crossover success before. Although his main gig is playing guitar and singing with Alison Krauss & Union Station, he enjoyed widespread attention by voicing George Clooney’s character in the 2000 film, O Brother, Where Art Thou?. At first, it’s startling to hear Tyminski’s warm, familiar baritone partnered with this track’s throbbing arrangement, but that approach made perfect sense to Avicii, best known for his worldwide hit, “Wake Me Up.”
“I have always liked bluegrass.,” the Swedish star told CMT Edge in September. “There is something cool and likable about it. It’s so mellow with all of the harmonies. It’s always captured my attention. I’ve been a fan of (Dan’s) ever since I saw O Brother, Where Art Thou? So it was incredible to be able to work with him on a song. It was a really interesting mix, and this is actually my favorite track on the record.”
