Holly Williams was dealing with a lot of life changes as she prepared to launch a new album at the beginning of 2013. As a newlywed with a busy Nashville boutique to manage, she had to determine how much effort to give a music career after a major label deal fell apart.
“I was kind of confused about whether I wanted to just keep writing and playing around town and putting out little indie records or really try to do a bigger release and stay out on the road,” she told CMT Edge in February. “You know, that’s what the song ‘The Highway’ is about. I mean, it all came back in a really strong way. I can’t stay away from the road. I want to be writing songs and singing them for people. That was really the birth of this record.”
Released in January, The Highway earned positive reviews, high-profile TV appearances and a full docket of club and festival appearances. Early next year, she’ll return to the open road as a guest on Jason Isbell’s tour. And if you’re wondering what life on tour looks like, she’s got you covered.
