With “Weed Instead of Roses,” Ashley Monroe is following a long tradition of writing country songs about love gone stale. However, she may be the first to solve the problem with this idea: “Let’s put up the teddy bears and get out the whips and chains.”
This probably isn’t what Charlie Rich envisioned in “Behind Closed Doors,” but that’s all right. It’s a fun number with a rollicking melody. Monroe classed up the joint when she played the tune during her Live @ CMT session a few weeks ago. What can we say? We’re buds.
