Thirty years after their smash duet “Islands in the Stream,” Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton have reunited for “You Can’t Make Old Friends,” the title track from Rogers’ upcoming album. And according to the sweet remarks they’ve been making about each other, the iconic vocal pairing truly are real-life friends.
“What a thrill it was for me to work again with my buddy, Dolly Parton, and what a special song,” Rogers told Billboard magazine. “Working with Dolly is always a little like going home. Everything felt comfortable.”
In the video, Parton gazes at Rogers and admits their connection is special.
“There’s something about mine and Kenny’s chemistry with each other,” she says. “People really sense what we really feel.”
Along with vintage photos of Rogers and Parton performing in their heyday, they join each other onstage once again in the video and prove the chemistry is still there.
