Texas fiddler turned singer-songwriter Amanda Shires aims to define the abstract on her new album, Down Fell the Doves.
“I wanna be able to, when I hear something in my head, just recreate it,” she told CMT Edge. “I think sometimes that takes a lot of listening and paying attention and asking questions.”
Pay attention to her new video for “Devastate,” and you might come away with a sense of impending romantic disaster. Shires looks into her lover’s eyes but sees only another woman filling his thoughts. With her dragging fiddle and faltering voice, it’s easy to sympathize with the poor girl.
Luckily, things in her real life are going much better. She’s currently touring the West Coast with husband Jason Isbell. She returns to Nashville on Sept. 21 for her very own showcase at the Americana Music Festival. Then it’s back with her hubby for a European run in November.
