A storytelling Texas native who now lives in Nashville, Brian Wright lifted a line from the song “Haunted” for the title of his upcoming album, Rattle Those Chains. Wright says the mysterious practice of writing songs is what inspired the track.
“I think it’s an explanation of how songwriters use songs to get their real emotions out, to say what they are really feeling,” he tells CMT Edge. “A song, an emotion, is settled in you like a ghost until it can be explained in writing. Writing is a way to wrangle that haunting.”
Wright recorded Rattle These Chains in Los Angeles over the course of two sessions — with an inspiring writing retreat in coastal Oregon nestled in between. The new project arrives on Sugar Hill Records on Sept. 10, just a week before Wright’s appearance at the Americana Music Conference in Nashville.
