With two separate tribute albums planned for release in the near future, prepare to hear and see more of ‘80s icons Alabama than you have in a long time.
Alabama & Friends comes out Aug. 27 and features the band plus contemporary stars like Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney, while High Cotton: A Tribute to Alabama arrives Sept. 17 and taps Americana artists like Jason Isbell and Old Crow Medicine Show.
So, this seems like the ideal time to savor the original “High Cotton” moment when the band was at the height of its popularity in 1989. As a testament to songwriters Scott Anders and Roger Murrah, much of the lyrical theme of that No. 1 hit seems just as relevant today — “We didn’t know that times were lean/Around our house the grass was green/It didn’t seem like things were all that bad.”
