Don’t be a stranger to Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, a San Francisco-based band that’s been making waves in Americana circles for a few years now. Although they don’t shy away from mellow music, they always bring a cool vibe, especially at outdoor festivals.
With happy melodies and smart lyrics, the band should turn heads with a new, self-titled album arriving on Aug. 27. The groovy first single is “Little Too Late.” One of my personal favorites, though, is “Hey Stranger,” a bittersweet number that Bluhm wrote with her husband and bandmate, Tim Bluhm.
“It’s a cheerful sounding song, but the lyrics are actually pretty sad,” she tells CMT Edge. “It’s about the one that got away. The pedal steel provides the lonesome, far-away feeling that bridges the gap between the upbeat music and the mournful message.”
