Happy in high heels or sneakers, Martina McBride finally found her footing with “My Baby Loves Me,” which debuted on the country singles chart 20 years ago this week. The upbeat song celebrated a woman’s independent streak — even when there was a devoted man in the picture. A cute, closing cameo by her husband John drove the point home.
Written by Gretchen Peters (who also wrote “Independence Day”), the catchy tune rose to No. 2 by the end of 1993. Over the next two decades, the powerful vocalist collected 20 Top 10 hits, but country radio programmers loved this one first. Check out “My Baby Loves Me.”
