What do you get a guy like Willie Nelson for his 80th birthday? How about a special CMT Crossroads concert starring the legendary singer and some friends taped in Jack White’s Nashville recording studio?
And a cake shaped like his famous guitar, Trigger, of course.
For CMT Crossroads: Willie Nelson & Friends From Third Man Records, Sheryl Crow, Jamey Johnson, Norah Jones, Ashley Monroe, Leon Russell and Neil Young all turned out to sing with Nelson — or over him, as Crow was instructed to do by Kris Kristofferson. Plus, Jack White himself conducts a friendly interview with the man of honor.
A tiny audience was herded into the intimate venue and treated to a string of performances that won’t soon be forgotten including “Crazy,” “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground” and “Shotgun Willie,” plus a cheeky kick-off song and some other surprises.
Nelson surely would have invited all of his fans if he could have, so be sure to check out the full episode of CMT Crossroads: Willie Nelson & Friends From Third Man Records.
