The band members of Matrimony want to show you around Charlotte, N.C., in their brand new video, “Golden City.” The banjo undercurrent gives the song a driving momentum — which the video takes literally as bandleader Jimmy Brown steers everybody to a summer house party.
“We filmed the video in our hometown of Charlotte and wanted to capture who we are and where we come from,” says Brown, who was born in Northern Ireland but discovered Charlotte while tagging along on a buddy’s business trip. “All of the people in it are our friends. All of the places in it are our homes and our hangouts like Growlers. Everyone just came together to have a good time, and Jon Jon [Augustavo, the director] was able to fit right in and bring it all to life on the video.”
Brown’s bandmates include his wife Ashlee Hardee Brown and her brothers Jordan and CJ. For their new EP, the band chose the title Montibello Drive, after the Hardee’s family home. Although the band remains rooted in North Carolina, the project was recorded in Nashville with producer Jay Joyce. Check out Matrimony’s “Golden City.”
