There’s a smoldering quality to Deadstring Brothers’ new tune, “Like a California Wildfire.” Maybe it’s that lingering steel guitar that introduces the track or the gently pleading nature of the lyrics.
“The song was written in California about how a guy is dreaming about moving his girl to the West Coast and the hope that moving there from Detroit, life would be better,” says bandleader Kurt Marschke.
The smoky song leads Deadstring Brothers’ upcoming album, Cannery Row, due April 9 on Bloodshot Records. The album takes its name from the area of Nashville where Marschke now lives, after moving from Detroit in 2010. Maybe you’ll hear some of that Tennessee influence in this new song, too. Enjoy “Like a California Wildfire.”
