North London’s folk trio Daughter is led by the vulnerable-voiced Elena Tonra, but while she sounds sweet her words can be sharp as a razor. The contrast in extremes makes for a powerful theme on “Landfill,” where despite being “thrown in a landfill” and “left at the altar,” Tonra still has torturously intense feelings for her thoughtless lover. It kind of illustrates that old cliché of girls who only go after obvious heartbreakers, which is usually hard for me to be empathetic about. But with its unorthodox guitar playing and perfectly-placed harmony part, I’m inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt. Men can be such jerks! This performance was originally filmed for MTV Hive’s In My Room.
