Waylon Jennings Walked the Line on The Johnny Cash Show

Can you believe Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash were once roommates? That has always fascinated me, and in this clip from The Johnny Cash Show in 1970, the old pals start off by joking about who was a better cook. Then Jennings takes the stage for a laid-back rendition of “Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line,” complete with his throaty vocals, simplistic lead guitar and even a few mistakes — some more obvious than others. The unpolished nature of live recordings in those days is quite a contrast to today’s TV appearances. At that time, Jennings was still rocking the clean-shaven look and had only recently married Jessi Colter, who you can check out playing keyboards and looking hot even by current standards. Relive a bit of the past with “Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line.”
