Last year at this time, very few listeners had heard of the Lumineers. Now they’re nominated for two Grammy Awards — best new artist and best Americana album for their full-length, self-titled debut.
“We’ve been working on music for several years now. You say it’s new, but I’ve been working on it,” Wesley Schultz told reporters backstage at the Grammy nominations concert last week. The roots-oriented band is signed to Dualtone Records, an independent label based in Nashville.
“We’ve never really gotten to be represented or promoted in a real way before we put out this record,” he added. “We feel really lucky to have people around us that give us their undivided attention. They hustle — and that’s what we’ve always done. That’s been really special. It’s hard to explain, though, because nothing happens for so long, and then you’re nominated for a Grammy.”
By now, I’ll bet you’ve heard their breakthrough single “Ho Hey” somewhere — on CMT, on the radio, in a movie trailer or at the end of a TV show. In case you missed it, though, here’s the Denver band’s debut video.
